• Films We Recommend About FGM:

    1. Secret of the Dawn: A Greek documentary describing different attitudes towards FGM in Mali, including the fight against it. Members of Sini Sanuman are included in the film. This film was recently shown at Harvard University in conjunction with the Harvard Extension International Relations Club.

    2. Moolaadé: A feature film by respected Senegalese director, Ousmane Sembene, Moolaadé follows the story of four girls who are trying to escape FGM, and who find protection (Moolaadé) with a woman who eventually convinces the whole village to end the practice. The film is in Bambara, the local language of Mali. Sini Sanuman aired the film twice on Malian television in 2010.

    3. The Day I Will Never Forget: Follows Somalis in Kenya dealing with FGM. Director Kim Longinotto follows women and girls who are suffering the consequences of FGM, and those who are trying to avoid FGM and forced marriage. The film's title poem, written by 10 year old Fouzia Hassan, can be found under Sini Sanuman's "About FGM" section.
